We are fortunate in having excellent music facilities at Ïã¸ÛÍõÖÐÍõÂÛ̳×ÊÁÏ, and I strongly encourage all students to take advantage of individual music tuition available from over a dozen qualified peripatetic teachers.
At present, lessons may be taken on the following:
• Violin

• Viola
• Oboe
• French Horn
• Guitar
• Keyboard
• Cello
• Clarinet
• Trombone
• Percussion
• Voice/Singing
• Double Bass
• Bassoon
• Tuba
• Drums
There are enormous benefits to be gained from playing a musical instrument, both in terms of specific skills and personal development.
If you wish your son to continue or start instrumental lessons, please read the details below and complete Part 1 of the online application form at the bottom of this page.
Funding and Instrument Hire
There are a limited number of full- and part- bursaries available to enable students to receive instrumental lessons who otherwise would not be able to afford them. To apply, please complete Part 2 of the form below, submitting alongside your application for lessons.
We further support successful applicants by providing practice space in school and allowing them to practise using school instruments, where available. This can be arranged with me when once a bursary has been awarded.
We have a small stock of instruments available to hire (free of charge to those in receipt of a bursary). Please email ceastman@tbgs.torbay.sch.uk for more details.
If you wish to purchase an instrument, please follow this link for details of the Assisted Musical Instrument Purchase Scheme which allows you to buy VAT-free.
Lesson Details
In most cases, twenty or thirty-minute lessons are available. All our teachers are self-employed and normally charge in the region of £32.00 per hour, invoicing you at the beginning of each term.
Please read the ‘Peripatetic Music Teacher Guidance and Procedures’ document, which can be found here:
for full details including lesson times and notice periods. By applying for lessons you are agreeing to abide by the guidance laid out therein.
All students are encouraged to take an active part in the musical life of the school by joining one of our wide range of ensembles and bands which take place at lunchtime or after school
